proposed locations
What are the proposed eco-town locations?
The first four locations, which have been assessed as having the potential for an eco-town, were announced on 16 July 2009. These locations are: Whitehill-Bordon in Hampshire, St Austell (China Clay Community) in Cornwall, Rackheath (Norwich) in Norfolk and North West Bicester in Oxfordshire.
For information about Middle Quinton please see Frequently Asked Questions about eco-towns.
What are the next steps in the process?
In the next step of the process individual schemes must submit planning applications for their proposals, which will be for local planning authorities to determine through the normal local planning process. This will provide further opportunities for consultation on the proposals. Planning permission will only be granted if proposals meet the rigorous standards set out in the Planning Policy Statement: eco-towns
